"FLAVOFISH" un pesce per la salvaguardia dell'ambiente e la divulgazione scolastica di un mondo "plastic-free"

A district in the center of the Mediterranean, consisting of a large island surrounded by three small national archipelagos and one foreign (Malta), cannot fail to be involved in issues related to environmental sustainability. Also considering the fact that these needs are an integral part of the local economy, mainly based on tourist flows, in turn linked to specific historical-monumental and landscape-environmental peculiarities given the well-known wealth of parks, reserves and beaches.
The themes of the seventh Rotary Focus Area are not restricted only to aspects strictly connected to the protection of the territory, but also involve various fields of application attributable to "green" energies, "plastic - free" issues, use of sustainable cultivation systems, peculiarities agro-food and finally the educational dissemination of a serious environmental culture. An appropriate knowledge of the potential use of funds from the R.F. (District Grants), has made it possible to finance environmental projects better if integrated with educational environmental awareness activity. Since three years, the Rotary E-Club D. 2110 has adopted the idea of a "Flavofish", created by an internal member and also developed through the co-option of an external sponsor who later became a "Corporate" member, now a product in over 40 specimens. The design idea initially envisaged its symbolic location on the coasts that bathe the three sides of Sicily. But the dimensional diversification, the request also for foreign clubs (one is in Marbella) or outside Sicily (2 in the Aeolian Islands) have changed the idea in progress. These fish-containers for the separate collection of plastic, are produced in various sizes / capacities from 0.5 to 4.5 m3 and now also in removable packaging for shipment while the future realization is being evaluated using rigid extruded plastics from environmental recoveries. This formal representation of an "environmentally respectful" container takes on a double value: a first functional, linked to separate collection, and a second educational - associative which, through the image of fish full of plastic, raises food for thought on the topic of pollution from plastic materials and their consequent entry into the food chain. In these educational paths, Rotarians with specific scientific, health and educational skills find their spontaneous expression as true Rotarian-at-work, in educational awareness campaigns in schools on environmental protection issues. The international involvement of the proposing Club takes place through membership as Founder (Ambassador) of End Plastic Soup, an integral part of ESRAG (Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group), the specific Rotary Action Group of reference.
